A rare Manchester appearance for one of Holland’s greatest novelists, Tommy Wieringa, who celebrates the publication in English of his acclaimed novella, A Beautiful Young Wife. A brilliant microbiologist in his forties marries an alluring younger woman, only to learn that even his beautiful young wife cannot stop him from growing older – a lesson which turns out to have dramatic consequences. It’s an unputdownable tale of sex, hubris and human frailty that has been compared to the work of Julian Barnes.

Tommy Wieringa is author of four novels, including These Are the Names, Joe Speedboat and Little Caesar (shortlisted for the IMPAC Award and Holland’s AKO Literature Prize). The Guardian called his writing ‘poetic, ambitious and brave.’ Tommy will be in conversation with Steve Dearden.
