The truth is often more interesting than fiction, and online journal and reading series The Real Story celebrates the exciting literary form that is creative nonfiction. At this special Festival edition hear author Horatio Clare, supported by a curated selection of writers reading essays crafted especially for the event.

A popular new addition to Manchester’s live literature scene, The Real Story has hosted headliners including Amy Liptrot, Michael Symmons Roberts and Laura Barton, helped develop new writing and broadened audiences for nonfiction literature.

Horatio Clare is the best-selling author of two memoirs, Running for the Hills (winner of the Somerset Maugham Award) and Truant, three books of nature and travel including Orison for a Curlew, and acclaimed fiction for adults and young people. He presents essays and documentaries for BBC Radio and is regularly published in the national press.
