MLF and Poets & Players are delighted to present two of the UK’s finest contemporary poets. Sean O’Brien’s writing combines passionate social commitments rooted in the North East with wide, imaginative horizons and technical mastery. Powerful, resonant and thought-provoking, his poetry has received many major awards, including the TS Eliot, Forward and Roehampton Poetry prizes. Deryn Rees-Jones brings her fierce poetic intelligence to bear on both intense personal emotion, and wider, highly inventive explorations of What It’s Like to Be Alive – the title of her 2016 Selected Poems. Her new collection, Erato, is due from Seren in 2019. Music will be played by the Basilisk Duo from the Royal Northern College of Music: Freya Chambers (bass clarinet and tenor saxophone) and Simeon Evans (baritone and bass saxophone).

There will also be a Poets & Players Workshop with Sean O'Brien at The Whitworth, 10.30am – 12.30pm on Saturday 6 October. Tickets are £20. To reserve a place and for payment details please contact davidborrott@btinternet.com
