For much of our literary history, women writers have played second fiddle, and only in recent years has their work been given its proper due. Redress the injustices of the past as we walk the streets of Suffragette City with local guide Anne Beswick, on a tour designed to show us literary Manchester through the eyes of its women of letters. From modern voices such as Jeanette Winterson and Carol Ann Duffy, to women of yesteryear like Frances Hodgson Burnett and Elizabeth Gaskell, celebrate the female writers we can claim as Manchester’s own, on the streets of their beloved city.
