Denzel Washington and Jennifer Beals as Easy Rawlins and Daphne Monet in noir film Devil in A Blue Dress

Part of the Cornerhouse’s My Noir season, Devil in a Blue Dress is a cool neo-noir directed by Carl Franklin. Adapted from Walter Mosley’s bestselling thriller, it stars Denzel Washington as his smooth protagonist Easy Rawlins and Don Cheadle as his troubled sidekick Mouse. Set in late 1940s Los Angeles, the film follows Rawlins on his search for missing white woman Daphne Monet (played by Jennifer Beals).

A compelling and beautifully shot mystery that shows how tough and racially divided LA was in the 1940s, Devil in a Blue Dress is summed up by Rawlins opening statement: ‘A man once told me when you step out of your door in the morning, you’re already in trouble. The only question is, are you on top of that trouble or not?’ The screening will be followed by a Q&A and book signing with Walter Mosley.
