THIS EVENT HAS BEEN POSTPONED

Due to ongoing problems with his voice and treatment for this, Michael Morpurgo has been advised that he must cancel speaking engagements for the next few months. He hates to have to cancel events and let people down but must do this in order to give his voice a chance to recover. Thank you very much for your understanding.

We hope to reschedule Michael’s Castlefield Manchester Sermon event for Spring 2018 and will announce the new date as soon as this is confirmed. Our box office will be in touch with all ticket holders to offer a full refund for tickets purchased for the event on 13 October.

We are thrilled to be commissioning beloved author, poet, playwright and librettist Michael Morpurgo to deliver this year’s Castlefield Manchester Sermon in the spectacular setting of Manchester Cathedral. His sermon, All Things Bright and Beautiful, explores our ever diminishing connection to our natural surroundings: our reliance upon them, exploitation of them, and our myopia to a growing crisis. A skilled and sensitive writer of stories for young readers, Michael’s views on writing, reading and wider world affairs are suffused with quiet wisdom and humour.

He is the author of many books including War Horse (adapted into a film and a sensational West End theatre production), Why the Whales Came, Private Peaceful and Toto, a retelling of the Wizard of Oz. He served as Britain’s Children’s Laureate from 2003-2005. The sermon will be followed by a conversation between Michael and host Carol Ackroyd.

This event is presented in partnership with Manchester Cathedral and sponsored by Castlefield, responsible financial advice and thoughtful investment specialist.

Doors open 6.30pm, event starts at 7pm.
